Noted defense attorney Samuel S. Leibowitz comments on Bruno Hauptmann's request for his legal assistance
VS SOTs defense lawyer Samuel S. Leibowitz on Bruno Hauptmann plea to him to save Hauptmann from the electric chair: "Any person with the least bit of discernment can place little credence in the fish stories told in Bruno's behalf from the witness stand in that Flemington courtroom. By the same token there was much produced by the prosecution that smells to high heaven. I shall make that endeavor to prevail upon him to do what governor [Harold G.] Hoffman has asked him to do. He must make up his mind to tell the truth and all of it. Therein in my opinion lies his only possible salvation to save himself from death in Trenton's electric chair." / Note: exact month/day not known
