Senator Merkley argues for amendment to third FY25 continued appropriations bill for IRS funding
Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley says in debate on his amendment to a bill to fund the Federal government through the last six months of fiscal year 2025 that the Inflation Reduction Act provided funding to prevent those with sophisticated finances and powerful advisors from avoiding tax payments, which addressed fundamental fairness since ordinary working people had money taken from their paychecks weekly while those with enormous paychecks and fancy consultants should not receive license to cheat, and the amendment's failure would increase the deficit by 46 billion dollars
