Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on Blue Nile River
BENISHANGUL-GUMUZ, ETHIOPIA - AUGUST 23: Ethiopian workers construct the Grand Renaissance Dam near the Sudanese-Ethiopian border on August 23, 2016. The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, formerly known as the Millennium Dam and sometimes referred to as Hidase Dam is a gravity dam on the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia currently under construction. It is in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia, about 15 km (9 mi) east of the border with Sudan. Ethiopia began diverting the Blue Nile in May 2013 to build the 6,000 megawatt dam, which will be Africa's largest when completed in 2017.(Footage by Mohammed Abdu Abdulbaqi/Anadolu Agency/Getty Images)
