David Cameron visits young people's development charity; David Cameron MP (Conservative Leader) speech to small gathering (backdrop reads 'Social Responsibility') SOT - I want to go back and ask what is the point of education/ the point is simple, it's about giving every child the opportunity to get on, and in a nutshell the problem in this country today is, there is a gap between those children from the most deprived backgrounds and those who have a good start in life/ that gap is getting wider, acute in the cities/ generations of children who are being failed by our city schools/ we must do something about it, it's not impossible, it can be done/ not some magic potion that no one understands/ walked to school with my daughter - a school has 62% getting free school meals/ Science 100% get level for or better, maths 93%, English 93% - it can be done/ we should not tolerate situation where loads of pupils are not getting that start in life/ I am the father of 3 children under 5, my biggest concern as a parent and politician is to make sure we have schools where pupils can learn and teachers can teach/ I want what other parents want, a school where your children are safe and they will learn the basics (speech incomplete)
