Fierce clashes break out in Athens on anniversary of student killing by police

Athens Riot Police run through flames caused by Molotov cocktails, firecrackers and butane canister bombs during clashes following an anniversary rally marking the 2008 police shooting of a student. /// The massive demonstrations in Athens to mark the eighth anniversary of the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos by police, turned violent on Tuesday night. The annual march to commemorate the incident has drawn thousands of anti-establishment and anti-austerity protesters. About 3,000 police officers were deployed to monitor the demonstrations. Around 30 people were detained or arrested. Grigoropoulos was 15-years-old when he was killed in 2008 by two police officers.
