To visit the sanctuary of the Virgin of Montserrat is to enter a place of incredible devotion. As the patron saint of Catalonia that she is, La Moreneta is more than an image, she is a symbol that transcends the purely spiritual. The basilica is beautiful, recently rebuilt (19th century), since the original from the 16th century was almost destroyed during the Napoleonic wars. A single nave welcomes us, with dark, intimate side chapels.
