Kelly Slater (Cocoa Beach, Florida, USA) (pictured) clinched an unprecedented ninth ASP World Title at the Billabong Pro Mundaka in Spain today when he defeated event wildcard Eneko Acero (Spain) during Round 3 of the competition. Slater, who was won a total of five of the eight events so far on the 2008 ASP World Tour and has lead the ASP ratings since the very first event in Australia, needed only advance through the third round of competition today to eliminate his closest rival Taj Burrow (Aus) from the title race. The Billabong Pro Mundaka is stop No. 9 of 11 on the ASP Men's World Tour and includes the world's top 40 professionals as well as three wildcards and five injury replacements.
