EGYPT-AVIATION-VINTAGE-AIR-RALLY
A picture taken on November 13, 2016 shows biplanes on the tarmac of teams participating in the Vintage Air Rally (VAR) including (from L to R) the German team's Bü 131 Bücker Jungmann, the Botswanian team's DH82 Tiger Moth, and the Canadian team's Travel Air 4000; at an airfield in Cairo's 6th of October City, west of the Egyptian capital, during the Vintage Air Rally (VAR).
A dozen biplanes from the 1920s and 1930s are flying 8,000 miles from Crete to Cape Town in a vintage aviation rally that harks back to the early days of air travel. The pilots will fly along the Nile from Cairo to Khartoum, past the highlands of Ethiopia, down through East Africa past Mount Kilimanjaro, over Victoria Falls, and will end in South Africa. It is the first aviation rally to be granted permission to land at Egypt's Giza pyramids in 50 years, and will put on Sudan's first air show. / AFP / KHALED DESOUKI (Photo credit should read KHALED DESOUKI/AFP via Getty Images)
