(Original Caption) 7/29/1950-New York, NY- Althea Gibson, negro tennis player, works out for the first time at Forest Hills today, at the West Side Tennis Club, and will probably play in the National Open starting August 25th. Miss Gibson, if she does play, will be the first Negro to enter the tournament and to be allowed to play.
