Map Showing Freedom Riders' Route

(Original Caption) 5/24/1961-Montgomery, AL: Map showing the route of black "Freedom Riders," who recently left Montgomery for Jackson, Mississippi, the hard-core center of segregation in the South. The Trailways bus will take a different route than usual. If it makes a stop before reaching Jackson, it will be at Meridian, Mississippi. National Guard patrols have been set up along the way at three check points (as shown on map). The "Freedom Riders" hope to complete a test run to New Orleans.
