CALCUTTA, INDIA: Gladys Staines, (L) widow of Australian missionary Graham Staines and her daughter Esther Staines walk out of a house in Calcutta, 15 July 2004. Staines and her daughter are enroute to Australia, as according to Indian media reports Mrs Staines has decided to leave India. On January 23, 1999, Graham Staines and his two sons Philip, 10, and Timothy, 8, were burnt to death, allegedly by a mob of Hindu fanatics accusing Staines of forcibly converting poor Hindu tribals of Orissa to Christianity. The three were asleep in their jeep in Manoharpur village in eastern Orissa state where they had gone to conduct a leprosy camp when the attack took place.
