Friedrichshafen, GERMANY: TO GO WITH AFP STORY: FBL-WC2006-IRN-ZEPPELIN A couple visits the Zeppelin museum in Friedrichshafen, 07 June 2006. As Iran's football team prepares for the World Cup, they will be hoping for more success than Friedrichshafen's most famous product -- the ill-fated Zeppelin airship. Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin tested the first craft on Friedrichshafen's Lake Constance, wowing spectators in 1900 as his 420-foot (128-metre) propeller-powered blimp rose above the waters from a floating hangar. His success heralded a 'Golden Age' of airship travel in the 1930s, but the era ended on May 6, 1937 when the mighty Hindenburg, a hydrogen-filled behemoth measuring a staggering 245 metres, burst into a spectacular inferno killing 35 of its 97 passengers at Lakehurst, New Jersey.
