Loyalist Supergrass Has Murder Sentence Reduced After Assisting The Police
BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND - JANUARY 29: An emotional Aaron McCone, son of John Harbison who was beaten to death by loyalists holds back tears as family members of UVF murder victims give their reaction to the sentencing of loyalist 'supergrass' Gary Haggarty at Laganside Courts on January 29, 2018 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Haggarty, aged 45, a former leader of an Ulster Volunteer Force unit which operated in the Mount Vernon area of north Belfast today had his sentence for five murders and more than 200 offences reduced from 35 years to six-and-a-half years for assistance provided to the police. Haggarty turned state witness in 2009 and provided information on 55 loyalist murders and 20 attempted murders although only one man is set to be prosecuted with two murders following Haggarty's co-operation.
