Little Round Top was the scene of bitter fighting during the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, the decisive battle and one of the bloodiest, of the American Civil War. Over 50,000 men were killed or wounded during three days of fighting. Photograph from an album entitled 'Canada and the United States.1867' by John Downes Rochfort, who toured all the major Civil War sites in 1867. Some of the photographs he purchased en route have since become some of that war's best known images.
